“Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have.”

-Unknown Author

Hello all! As you all hopefully know by now our book to read first is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Schaffer and Annie Barrows. We will read it for two weeks, commenting along the way about what we all think! Then, the last days we’ll open discussion for more insight.

Seeing as our schedule is so compact, we will also have to be thinking about the next book along the line. So, 7 days before we end on the 15th I will open up a new poll! Don’t worry though I’ll keep everyone on schedule, so no confusion!

ENJOY!

Drum Roll please..

April 25, 2010

The winning book title is : The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Schaffer and Annie Barrows. It won with 4 votes.

I think it is a perfect choice to start off our reading adventure, being about a book club!

Thanks everybody for voting! We officially start reading on May 2nd until May 15th, but feel free to start a little early if you like.

Remember: You can always figure out what we’re reading at the moment by checking out The Books page!

4 more days to vote!

There is no friend as loyal as a book.”
Ernerst Hemingway

I think we should keep Hemingway’s attitude towards reading throughout the months to come. It seems fitting.

Folks, we now have 11 more days until its go-time! So far the majority vote is with The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Seems like an interesting read, for sure.

4 more days to vote, if you haven’t already! Don’t forget you could write-in a suggestion, if you don’t see anything you like! If your book isn’t chosen first, don’t worry about it, there are many more books to come! After the next 4 days, I’ll announce the official winner and you’ll have 7 days to acquire it!

Here’s an Update!

April 11, 2010

So, I made a poll with a compilation of your book suggestions! There is still some time to suggest some more. The poll has an option to write-in, so no worries there! Be sure to vote!

To read a book for the first time is to make an acquaintance with a new friend; to read it for a second time is to meet an old one.  -Chinese Saying

(keep this in mind while you’re voting!)

There are 21 more days until we start reading! I will announce the winning book title 7 days before May 2nd(our start date!).

Just want to say how great I think all of our members are being, very supportive! I was worried when I first started this, thinking it would be difficult to start a blog that was so interactive with its readers. This blog is all about you, what you think, and hinges on your responsiveness! Keep up the good work everyone, we’re getting closer!

Happy April..

Just want to say I saw this quote and knew exactly what he was talking about:

I know every book of mine by its smell, and I have but to put my nose between the pages to be reminded of all sorts of things.

-George Robert Gissing

We’ve acquired some new members lately. Very exciting!!

I believe there are about 28 more days until we all start reading our first book!(also very exciting) : )

Also: Reply to this post with the book you think we should read first..then I can put it in poll form and we can vote on it. If no one suggests books then I’ll just decide on one for the whole group!

The Kick-Off

March 22, 2010

When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young.
-Maya Angelou

Books have the ability to change us, almost always for the better..

So let’s read together. The time from now (March 23,2010) until the start of the readings (May 2nd, 2010) is a time to join the club, get to know the site, and begin suggesting books and choosing the first book to read.

I want this whole thing to go smoothly. I don’t want anyone to feel lost or left behind. This is just simply reading, learning, and loving. Enjoy yourself.

I want this site to feel like a virtual round table, where we can become friends and share our minds.  I’m completely open to ideas and to what you think could improve. So at any point just tell me! : )
